Democratic National Committee (DNC) staffer Seth Conrad Rich’s mother, Mary Rich, told NBC4 in Washington D.C., that her son’s murderer hurt the community where he was working and living.

In response to her son’s murder, Mary Rich said , “…They hurt the community and they hurt the long-term possibility of what he could have done.”

At the time of his death, Rich worked as the DNC’s director of voter expansion.

There were several people who tweeted about the work Rich did in order to register voters. Among them were Emily Conrad and David R. Norton.

Emily Conrad tweeted that Rich brought his neighbors together “for greater good,” while David R. Norton tweeted that Rich had “so much promise” and that his “heart breaks.”

The current and former DNC chairwomen also acknowledge the hard work Rich did in order to register voters.

DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz described Rich as a person who was open and willing to give his time to others. NBC4 quoted Schultz as saying, “Our hearts are broken with the loss of one of our DNC family members over the weekend. Seth Rich was a dedicated, selfless public servant who worked tirelessly to protect the most sacred right we share as Americans-the right to vote.”

Former DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile echoed Shultz’s description of Rich as a person who was willing to help others.

Brazile tweeted that Rich “lived to make a difference” and that “he believed in voting rights.”

Rich’s neighbors came together on Wednesday and held a vigil near his home.

Seth Rich grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, where his family is very prominent within the Jewish community.

His father was the president of the Beth El Synagogue. Seth Rich is a graduate of Creighton University.

Before moving to Washington D.C., Rich worked as an intern for former U.S. Senator Ben Nelson.

After his internship with Nelson, Rich then went on to work for the research, polling data firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner.

Rich’s older brother, Aaron Rich, told the Omaha World-Herald that his brother was an all-around good guy who “was committed to whatever cause he thought was right.”

And one of the causes that Seth Rich spoke out about was the racial divide and the strained relationship between the police and the African-American community.

The last post Seth Rich wrote on his Facebook page was about the deaths of Philando Castile, Alton Sterling, and the five Dallas police officers.

Rich wrote, “Too much pain to process. We have to be better and defend each other more true. A life is exponentially valuable. I have family and friends on both sides of the law. Please, stop killing each other.”
